His novel Shoeless Joe began as a short story in the collection Shoeless Joe Jackson Comes to Iowa. Other baseball works include The Iowa Baseball Confederacy, The Thrill of the Grass, Magic Time and The Further Adventures of Slugger McBatt.

Kinsella’s Silas stories are told from the point of view of his fictional creation Silas Ermineskin of the Hobbema Reserve in Alberta. The first collection is Dance Me Outside. Others include Scars, Born Indian and The Fencepost Chronicles.
